PTB-XL 12-lead ECGs with SCP-ECG statements

The 21,799 clinical 10-second 12-lead ECGs of PTB-XL 1.0.3 at 500 Hz, one row per record, with the cardiologists' SCP-ECG statements. No new annotation was made.

Split PTB-XL folds Records Patients Records without a reference statement
train 1-8 17418 15023 4
validation 9 2183 1942 3
test 10 2198 1904 0

Splits follow the source's recommendation (strat_fold 1-8 train, 9 validation, 10 test). The source made the folds per patient, so no patient spans two splits; the records of folds 9 and 10 were checked by at least one cardiologist.

Fields

  • ecg_id, patient_id: the source identifiers.
  • age: years at the recording; 300 means over 89 years (the source's HIPAA convention). Null when unknown.
  • sex: M or F (the source's 0 and 1).
  • height, weight: cm and kg when known.
  • strat_fold: the source's fold, 1-10.
  • validated_by_human: whether a cardiologist checked the statements.
  • report: the source's free-text report (German, some English).
  • scp_codes: JSON object of SCP-ECG statement code to likelihood (0, 15, 35, 50, 80 or 100). The source sets 0 when no likelihood was recorded, which is the case for nearly every rhythm and form statement.
  • statements: the reference statement set of the ecg-read environment, sorted: every code of scp_codes with likelihood at least 50 or exactly 0 (not recorded). Codes with a low recorded likelihood (15 or 35) are left out. Empty for a record whose statements all have a low likelihood.
  • superclasses, subclasses: the diagnostic_class and diagnostic_subclass of the diagnostic codes in statements, from scp_statements.csv, sorted.
  • fs: 500. leads: the 12 lead names in the row order of signal: I, II, III, AVR, AVL, AVF, V1-V6.
  • signal: float32 array of shape (12, 5000) in millivolts, read from the records500 WFDB files with wfdb.

scp_statements.csv is the source's codebook, unchanged: the 71 statements with their kind (diagnostic, form, rhythm), diagnostic class and subclass, and description.

Changes from the source

  • Source: PTB-XL, a large publicly available electrocardiography dataset, version 1.0.3 on PhysioNet, CC BY 4.0. Only the 500 Hz records are used; the 100 Hz copies are not.
  • WFDB signals converted to float32 millivolt arrays, leads as rows. Metadata columns kept with the names above; sex written as letters, scp_codes as JSON. The source's nurse, site, device, recording_date, heart_axis, infarction stadium, signal-quality and file-name columns are not copied.
  • statements, superclasses and subclasses are derived from scp_codes and scp_statements.csv as described.
